Our Innovative
Classroom Environment

St. Michael's Prep provides an innovative classroom environment rooted in Social Emotional Learning. We achieve this by seamlessly incorporating Project-based learning, blending STEAM and Service Learning into our academic curriculum delivery.

By equipping our students with progressive technology, vibrant and meaningful learning experiences, and hands-on making, coupled with academic subject matter and real-world application, we distinguish ourselves with innovative teaching and learning methods. We offer our students cutting-edge technology, engaging and purposeful learning opportunities, alongside rigorous academic content and practical application. This approach nurtures empathetic problem solvers prepared to make a positive impact on the world.

Our Innovative approach shepherds this way of learning in the following ways:

Bringing Ideas to Life
Design Thinking & Maker Mindset

St. Michael's Prep Pre-K 3 through 12th grade students bring ideas to life in our two state-of-the-art Makerspaces: the d.lab for Making and the Design Studio.  These experiential workspaces allow for creative, collaborative opportunities for hands-on and open-ended learning. Design thinking and the Maker mindset are integrated into the classroom curriculum with authentic and meaningful connections.

Maker Education

Experiential, hands-on learning is essential in the formation of our future ready, servant leaders at St. Michael's Prep. In order to provide this type of learning for our students, we created the Lower and Middle School d.lab for Making, the first of its kind Makerspace in Central Texas for our students to engage in creating and answer the challenges created during their academic studies of content applied in real-world problems through the framework of Project-based learning coupled with Design Thinking.

Our d.lab for Making is a space for all Lower and Middle School students to work and create in, from PK3 to 8th grade. Utilizing a variety of tools such as sewing, woodworking, modeling and fabrication, 3D printing, vinyl and laser cutting, as well as many low-tech and high-tech creativity platforms, our students are able to invent and manifest new ideas that solve real world problems based on their academic studies.

At the Upper School, our Design Studio allows 9-12th grade students to deepen their skills in the tools and techniques necessary for even more complex constructivist design thinking.
We believe Making challenges the imaginations of our students, builds confidence and creativity, and teaches important lessons in perseverance and resilience.
