Bob Mahoney
Upper School Science and Engineering Instructor
Bob Mahoney joined our school in 2019. He earned his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Notre Dame and the University of Texas at Austin, respectively. As a spaceflight instructor at Johnson Space Center, he trained shuttle crews and mission flight controllers in computers, navigation, rendezvous, and space tether dynamics. Bob has taught AP Physics, Physics, Calculus, and Engineering here at St. Michael's Prep, while previously he had taught middle school science, math, and writing skills at St. Ignatius Martyr Catholic School, and Physics and Technology Applications at San Juan Diego Catholic High School.
In 2003 he published his novel Damned to Heaven, an authentic space thriller. He and his wife Margie have five children, all SMP graduates with the youngest a graduate of the Middle School.
While he is originally from NJ and upstate NY and enjoys hiking today, his ever-favorite outdoor activities were water-skiing, snowmobiling, and entertainingly bad golf. His favorite authors include J.R.R. Tolkien, Stephen Jay Gould, and G.K. Chesterton.
