Phil Rombach

Upper School Head Football Coach
Coach Rombach joined our school in 2023 as the head of the St. Michael’s Prep Football Program. Under Coach Rombach’s tenure as Head Football Coach, the Warriors moved up to TAPPS Division I, the highest classification in TAPPS, and improved the team's overall record from (3-7) to (8-3). In 2024, the Warriors finished 2nd in Division 1 District 2, and secured a playoff berth. Over the past two seasons, 10 Warriors have been named 1st Team All District and 14 have been named 2nd Team All District. In 2023, two St. Michael’s Prep Football Players received All State Honors. 2024 All State Honors have not yet been released.

Prior to St. Michael’s Prep, Coach Rombach coached at Linfield University (OR) from 2007-2022. Coach Rombach primarily coached Linebackers and Defensive Backs, and served in other roles as The Head Football Strength & Conditioning Coach, Recruiting Coordinator, Director of Football Operations, and Adjunct Professor of Health Education. Coach Rombach is a NSCA CSCS and was named the NCAA Division III Strength & Conditioning Coach of the Year in 2013 by American Football Monthly Magazine.

While coaching at Linfield, Coach Rombach and the Wildcats secured 14 Northwest Conference Championships, 14 NCAA DIII Playoff Appearances, including 6 Quarter-Final, and 3 Semi-Final Appearances. In that time, Coach Rombach directly coached 3 All American Linebackers, 1 West Region DPOY, 3 All West Region Players, 3 NWC DPOY’s, 16 NWC 1st Team Recipients, 9 NWC 2nd Team Recipients, and 2 NWC Honorable Mention Players. The Wildcats also secured their 66th Consecutive Winning Season, an all-college football record.

Coach Rombach played Linebacker at Linfield from 2002-2006. During that time period, Linfield won the 2004 NCAA DIII National Championship, as well as 4 Northwest Conference Titles. Coach Rombach was an Honorable Mention NWC Linebacker in 2006 and was voted Defensive Captain for the Wildcats.

Coach Rombach and his wife, Kristen, have three children who attend St. Michael’s Prep. Kristen is a Registered Nurse OCN and is the Associate Director of State Partnerships at American Cancer Society.
