Middle School Robotics

Expanding upon a Lower School robotics foundation, Middle School students deepen their knowledge through electives courses in either recreational or competitve robotics classes. This cutting-edge and innovative curriculim requires students to strengthen their thinking and problem solving skills as they are challenged to design, build, program, and operate robots to accomplish tasks and compete in a head-to-head, alliance format challenge.
Students begin implementing coding in robotics starting in the lower school, to build creativity, computational thinking, and risk taking. That foundational knowledge extends to high-level robotics in 7th and 8th grade. Further, when students reach the high school level, they compete on the St. Michael's Prep LightSaders team

This program is about much more than building robots. Guided by adult coaches and mentors, students develop STEAM skills and practice engineering principles, while realizing the value of hard work, innovation, and working as a team.

Students participate in FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science & Technology) Robotics Tech Challenges, in which teams of up to 15 members compete in a specific challenge, typically with high school teams across grades 7-12. Students apply to participate in the Robotics program.

The Middle School’s award-winning robotics team competes throughout the year locally, nationally, and globally.
