Evan LeRoy ‘04

Chef, pitmaster, and co-owner of LeRoy and Lewis Barbecue
Evan LeRoy attended St. Michael’s from 2000-2004. In high school Evan enjoyed being a part of the drama productions and served as the Student Council Class President. Evan went on to attend Florida State University where he met his wife, Lindsey, and earned a degree in English. After college, Evan went to culinary school in Austin and then lived in New York City before returning in 2012.

Today, Evan is the co-owner of LeRoy and Lewis, ranked #5 in Texas Monthly’s Top 50 BBQ Joints 2021 and featured on Netflix’s “Somebody Feed Phil”. Known for his unique takes on Texas barbecue, Evan’s culinary experience ranges from fine dining to bread baking, to volume barbecue. He has traveled to Australia, China, and Finland to train and work with prospective pitmasters and has been known for his openness to teaching and sharing smoking secrets.
 
He has been featured in the New York Times, and recently, L&L was named one of the 25 Best Restaurants in Austin, and the Austin American-Statesman named L&L one of the most influential and important openings of the decade.   

Evan has appeared on The Food Network’s “Burgers, Brew & Que”, Tastemade’s “From Scratch”, and in 2014, took home the title of “Austin Grill Master” on the Travel Channel’s American Grilled Texas episode. Evan has held guest chef appearances at several well-known restaurants in the US and his food has been showcased by The New York Times, Food & Wine, Cooking Channel’s “The Best Thing I Ever Ate”, GQ, and more.

His community involvement runs deep as he is passionate about supporting organizations that are making a measurable impact to help others. He is consistently involved with Free Lunch ATX and regularly contributes to Free Fridges in Austin. He has also donated his time for events and dinners benefitting nonprofits like St. Michael’s, The Texas Food & Wine Alliance, Les Dames d’Escoffier, The Rise School of Austin, and more.

During his free time, Evan enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter, Frankie, playing golf, watching sports, and cooking or discussing barbecue.

Each year, the St. Michael’s Alumni Association Board recognizes an alumnus/alumna who is "Living the Mission" through demonstrated leadership, service and decision-making consistent with Catholic values and has made notable contributions to the school and/or his or her community. During the annual Alumnus/a of the Year Award Presentation and Dinner in the spring, the honoree receives the award and is also celebrated during Homecoming of the same academic year.
